Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University Hyderabad, Kukatpally, Hyderabad is carved out of Multi-Campus JNTU in the year 2009. JNTU was established on  2     October 1972 and has been divided into 4 different Universities namely JNTU Hyderabad, JNTU Anantapur, JNTU Kakinada and Jawaharlal Nehru Architecture and Fine Arts University, with the aim to make higher education accessible for rural area students and also for administrative convenience. JNTUH is a premier institution that offers academic programmes at UG and PG level in core areas of Engineering and Inter-disciplinary areas of Science and Technology besides Management courses and Distance Education Programmes.

The Institute of Science & Technology, a constituent unit of JNTUH is presently offering Post graduate programmes in interdisciplinary areas of Science & Technology. Some of the areas include Biotechnology, Chemical Engineering, Environment, Geospatial Technologies, Nanotechnology, Pharmacy and Water resources. The Centre for Biotechnology was established in 1989 with the aim of generating well trained manpower in different areas of Biotechnology to cater to the needs of industry and research. The faculty members of the centre are actively involved in teaching and research. Some of the areas of research at the centre include Secondary Metabolite production, Cancer Biology, Biofuels and Microbial enzymes.





The Centre for Biotechnology (CBT) was established at Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University in 1989. The Department offers Full Time PG programmes which include M.Tech. in Biotechnology, M.Sc. in Biotechnology, M.Sc. in Microbiology and Ph.D. in Biotechnology. Our Centre also offers Part Time PG Programmes in M.Tech. in Biotechnology and M.Tech. in Biopharmaceutical Technology. Department has well equipped classrooms with audiovisual facilities, research and computer laboratories for imparting advanced practical training and exposure to students. The Centre has modern infrastructure for carrying out basic/applied research in the advanced areas of Cancer Biology, Molecular Biology, Enzyme Technology, Plant Biotechnology, Animal Biotechnology, Microbial Technology, Process Engineering and Bioinformatics. ​The centre also conducts International and National Conferences, workshops and seminars for Students, Teachers and Scientists in the relevant areas of Biotechnology for human resource development. The centre is executing research projects in diverse areas of biotechnology funded by AICTE, DST, MNRE, DST-FIST, UGC and also Industries. The Centre has active collaboration with Research Organizations such as ICRISAT, Indian Immunological Ltd, IICT, CCMB, National Institute of Nutrition, Hyderabad Central University, NATCO Pharma, Osmania University and NRC-PBI Canada and Indo-US Collaborative Projects. 


Centre for Biotechnology, Institute of Science & Technology, JNTUH is organizing a National Conference on "Biotechnology & Bioengineering - Trends (NCBT-2020)" during 27-29  Feb, 2020. The NCBT-2020 provides a unique opportunity for Students, researchers, Teachers and scientists to share knowledge and scientific achievements. This conference facilitated interactions and exchange of ideas and interests between the researchers and thus, provided meaningful scientific collaborations and upgrading their knowledge in new fields of Biotechnology and Bioengineering.
